Getting rid of that greasy look

Getting rid of that greasy look

Natural oil on the scalp protects your hair. But excess sebum can lead to uncomfortable itching and even cause acne on your scalp. Sometimes, hair follicles become clogged with the excess oil, leading to rapid hair loss. Heredity, hormonal changes, excessive stress, eating too much oily food and poor hair care can also make your hair look heavy, greasy and unmanageable. You can always cut the grease without causing much damage to your hair or scalp. All these are natural remedies and are proven to relieve you of your overactive sebaceous glands without completely stripping your scalp of natural oils..

1) Maintain a balanced diet of healthy fats and carbs

Studies have found out that the food we eat can affect the excretion of sebaceous glands. Include more healthy fats, omega fatty acids and vitamin D rich foods such as seafood, bananas, and leafy greens into your regimen to keep your sebum levels from getting out of control.

2) Shower more for healthy hair

To prevent oily hair, you need to keep the scalp clean. To get rid of that excess grease, you probably need to wash your mane more frequently. Finding a shampoo which removes oily build up, without disrupting the natural moisture balance of your hair is important. If you need to wash your hair daily, a mild shampoo is highly recommended. Use of Kumarika Soft & Shine Shampoo & Conditioner with 100% natural extracts of avocado oil and shea butter, will nourish and add moisture to your hair, leaving it soft, smooth and shiny. The avocado oil contains vital proteins, vitamins and natural SPF for your hair, while the shea butter adds a rich source of moisture.

3) Shampoo and Condition your hair correctly

Poor shampooing and conditioning methods will only contribute to residue and buildup, which causes more greasiness. Start off by rinsing your hair with lukewarm water. When your hair is rinsed, it loosens the oils through the scalp and opens the cuticle, therefore it can absorb the nutrients and oils in your shampoo and conditioner. Don’t use more shampoo than you need. Gently scrub your scalp with Kumarika Soft & Shine Shampoo and lather up from roots to ends.

Leave the mid-lengths to the ends for your conditioner. The longer the conditioner stays on your hair, the better it absorbs. The 100% natural extracts of avocado oil and shea butter in your Kumarika Soft & Shine Conditioner will nourish and add moisture to your hair, leaving it soft, smooth and shiny.

4) Always use a clean brush/comb

Keep your hair brushes, combs and styling equipment clean and oil free. When you are living in a humid country, you will have to devote extra time to cleaning up your tools with a bit of shampoo or soap to strip off the dirt and keep the oil from building up. Consider changing the way you brush your hair. It is best to comb your hair in a way that distributes oils evenly throughout your scalp. Switch your brush to a natural bristle one, as it helps to keep the roots from getting unreasonably oily.

5) Use an Aloe Vera Gel

The vitamins, minerals and enzymes in aloe vera detoxify your scalp of impurities and protect your strands, leaving your tresses soft and healthy. Mix one teaspoon of aloe vera gel and one tablespoon of lemon juice into one cup of any mild shampoo. Let the shampoo remain on your hair for a few minutes before rinsing it off.

6) Lemon & Egg mask

The acidic property of lemon helps balance the pH level of the scalp and controls oil secretion. To make this mask, you need to add some lemon juice to two egg yolks. Egg yolks are high in sulfur which can relieve dandruff and greasy hair symptoms, in addition to leaving a nice shine without the oily residue. Juice 1 lemon and combine the juice with 2 egg yolks (no egg whites). Beat the two ingredients and apply the mixture on wet hair. Let it absorb the goodness of the mask for 5-7 minutes and rinse off with shampoo and water. Repeat 2-3 weeks for best results.

7) Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar can be used as a hair tonic to get soft and shiny hair. Just like lemon, the acid in apple cider vinegar is effective in balancing the pH level of your scalp, which in turn helps control the secretion of oil on your scalp. Mix two to three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water. After washing your hair with a shampoo, use a solution of apple cider vinegar (2 tablespoons) with water as a rinse. Let it rest for a few minutes on your scalp and wash it off with water. Repeat two or three times a week for best results.
